FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Tk20?
Tk20 is a comprehensive assessment, planning, reporting, and data management system that provides tools for academic programs and administrative units across George Mason University to collect and manage their academic and non-academic assessment activities. University Life uses Tk20 for planning and reporting annual assessment and managing co-curricular contributions for SACSCOC accreditation.
How Do I Access UL's Tk20 Website?
- Ask your unit head to email ula@gmu.edu and request Tk20 access and training.
- At https://gmul.tk20.com, enter your Mason username and password twice.
What are UL's Tk20 Requirements for Annual Assessment?
Assessment Planning > Outcomes/Goals > Edit/Create
For Type dropdown, select one UL Thematic Goal (Efficient Operations, Engaged Students, Inclusive Thriving Community, Strategic Support Services, Student Learning Goal, KPI)
If you have identified a multi-year goal that you plan to work towards this year, you have to create an Assessment Plan for that goal.
- Assessment plans created and edited within the Multi-year goal, in Assessment Planning > Assessment Planning > Plan Data Entry
- Existing Assessment plans can be viewed in Assessment Planning > Assessment Planning > View Plan
- Assessment plans are time-bound to an Assessment Period and are organized by a Divisional Thematic Goal (Programming, Support Services, Campus Climate, Operational, Student Learning, KPI)
Outcomes & Measures tab
Unit Tk20 Contacts enter required Outcomes & Measures information (July 16-August 16)- 1-2 SMART Outcomes per Goal
- For each outcome, answer:
- HOW will the outcome be measured? Describe the method(s) and/or tool(s) you plan to use.
- WHEN will this assessment take place? (Fall, Spring, or Summer, specific month or date, or ongoing)
- WHO is the target population for this assessment, if applicable? (How many people? Census or sample? Students, Faculty, Staff, etc.?)
- WHO is the person primarily responsible for this assessment?
- HOW will the results of this assessment be used and disseminated?
- Supporting documents to support the above.
Results & Insights tab
- Enter after the Outcome assessment is completed and concluded (October 1-July 15)
- For each Outcome:
- Was the target: Met, Partially Met, Not Met
- Summary of data/results
- What was learned as a result of this assessment?
- Supporting documents to further elaborate on your data/results/insights
- If your outcome was not ‘Met’, indicate your next step.
Actions tab
- Enter after all Outcomes assessments for the Goal are completed (October 1-July 15)
- Assessment Actions (select all that apply)
- Describe in detail the changes to be made to your assessment approach (if applicable)
- Other Actions (select all that apply)
- Describe in detail the other changes to be made based on this assessment (if applicable). If not other changes/actions need to be made, please explain.
- Will your work on this goal continue in the next reporting cycle? (Yes/Unsure at this time/No)
- Do any actions require additional support, feedback, and/or resources from the Assessment, Research, and Retention for UL Office? (Yes/Unsure at this time/No)
- Do any actions require additional support, feedback and/or resources from your supervisor? (Yes/Unsure at this time/No)
Status Update tab
- Completed after Q1, Q2 and Q3
- Select Current Status color
- Should be an honest, narrative style update on where you are at the end of that quarter and what the next quarter holds in relation to the assessment plan you have laid out
Key Performance Indicators (KPI) now live and are updated in Tk20.
- They are entered in the same way as Multi-year goals and Assessment plans are. They are also updated quarterly, on the same schedule.
- Most KPI’s are annual/on-going, so the Results & Insights and Actions tabs are not expected to be completed until the end of the year.
- Supporting tables, charts, documents, etc. that you may want to submit to support your quarterly update for each KPI should be submitted as a document in the Results & Insights Tab, clearly identified as a data/supporting document that is time bound.
- This does not replace the need for a summary/narrative update in the status update tab
- You are not expected to complete the rest of the sections in the tab until the EOY
